The last decade has witnessed an increasing interest in the concept of  grounding.  Grounding is often described as an objective relation which is explanatory in nature. Our aim in this talk is to contribute to this debate. More precisely, we will attempt to give a formal definition of the concept of (formal) grounding by using the notions of derivability and complexity.
