Philosophies in Translation

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The research group aims at investigating the forms of philosophical translation and their implications in hermeneutic, aesthetic and historical-philosophical fields. The theme of translation is a challenge for the humanities and social sciences as a whole, but it is also a philosophical problem in a twofold sense: a problem for philosophy, as an object that philosophy interrogates, and a problem of philosophy, which invests its lexical transformations and its historical becoming, as shown by the duplicity of the genitive in the expression “philosophy of translation”.

The work of the research group is articulated along the following axes: 

• an interrogation of the relationship between the aesthetic side and the speculative side of philosophical translation as a means for philosophy to reflect on its own corpus, as well as on the status of philosophical exposition in the plurality of its genres.
• an investigation into the history of philosophy understood as translation or confrontation between universes of thought involving philosophical systems, probing their potentialities and limits in a continuous exercise of translation between languages, cultures and practices.
• a reflection on the specificity of translation in philosophicis, of translation as philosophical activity and practice.
