We design and carry out both pure and applied research within the field of philosophical sciences and in areas relating to the humanities, such as semiotics, psychology, cognitive sciences, the study of the mind and artificial intelligence, sociology, pedagogy and history.
We explore traditions of theoretical and moral thought, as well as historical-philosophical, historical-scientific, logical-epistemological, aesthetic, legal and sociological thought, and we analyse linguistic and semiotic modes, the theories and practices of psychology, and the systems and forms of history and pedagogy. Added to this framework, with equal importance and strategic value, is an openness towards computer science disciplines that complement and develop humanistic knowledge in its digital, cognitive, scientific and socio-cultural dimensions.
Almost all sectors are engaged in research on current issues within their fields, ranging from in-depth examination of the most contemporary debates from a historical-philosophical perspective, to the ethical implications of new technologies, to reflections on the relationship between aesthetic, epistemological, linguistic and semiotic knowledge in relation to the latest advances in the humanities and sciences.
We explore psychological, sociological, cognitive and computer science themes in relation to various philosophical traditions, with particular regard to the digital sphere and new technologies.
There are numerous active international exchanges within the Department, such as projects and collaborations.
We promote and highlight subjects and objectives at the heart of international scientific debate
Inspired by this principle, we consolidate and develop university study programmes that meet the needs of the local and national communities; we promote knowledge in collaboration with schools and educational institutions, working in synergy with business partners interested in developing projects that draw on the humanities to enhance the services and activities that define them.
